Where It All Began

The Emma Kate didn't start as a business. It started as a passion. Skippers Lee and John grew up fishing the waters off Padstow — a stretch of the North Atlantic coast that, once it gets its hooks into you, never really lets go. Between them they have spent the better part of their lives on these specific waters, accumulating a knowledge of the wrecks, reefs, tidal marks and feeding grounds that no chart or echo sounder can replicate.

Both Lee and John are former Cornish boat angling champions — Lee as Junior, John as Senior — titles earned through genuine competition against the best anglers in the county. That competitive background instilled a precision in their approach to fishing that still defines how we operate today. When you book a trip on the Emma Kate, you're not booking a boat and a driver. You're booking two of the most knowledgeable sea anglers in North Cornwall.

The Emma Kate herself — our LOCHIN 38 charter vessel — was chosen with care. The LOCHIN hull is the product of a British boatbuilder renowned for constructing lifeboats and police patrol vessels, and it shows. Fast, stable, seaworthy and comfortable, she handles the sometimes demanding conditions of the North Cornwall coast with confidence. Twin 280hp FPT Iveco Turbocharged diesel engines mean we reach the fishing grounds fast and come home when we choose — not when the weather dictates.

Over the years, the Emma Kate has taken thousands of guests — from children catching their first mackerel to experienced club anglers chasing specimen tope — out onto the waters that Lee and John know and love. Every single trip is different. Every day brings its own conditions, its own catches, its own unexpected moments. That's what keeps us doing this. The sea never repeats itself.

The Emma Kate — LOCHIN 38

The Emma Kate is a LOCHIN 38 — a hull designed and built by one of Britain's most respected boatbuilding companies, with a heritage that includes the construction of Royal National Lifeboat Institution vessels and police patrol boats. The LOCHIN hull is renowned for its sea-keeping ability, stability in open water, and the confidence it inspires in any conditions.

She is powered by twin FPT Iveco Turbocharged diesel units, each producing 280hp — twin-engine reliability that means we reach the best fishing grounds quickly and return home safely whatever the conditions. Cruising speed is a comfortable 15 knots; sprint speed reaches 25 knots when needed. Those figures matter — they mean maximum fishing time and minimum transit time on every trip.

The Emma Kate is fully fitted out for a day's serious fishing — multiple rod holders, a large, clear working deck, a sheltered wheelhouse with seating, and a comprehensive safety equipment package that meets all MCA requirements. She is maintained to the highest standard and is one of the finest charter fishing vessels operating off the Cornwall coast.
